Living in Los Altos is about so much more than just owning a home in a beautiful town, it’s about being part of a truly connected community. One of the things I cherish most about this area is how we come together throughout the year to celebrate creativity, kindness, tradition, and fun. My name is Lynn North, and I am a Los Altos real estate agent who is passionate about my local community!
If you’re new to Los Altos or just want to make sure you never miss a moment, here’s a look at some of our most beloved annual events. Whether you’re wandering through art booths, sipping bubbly with friends, or waving to Santa at the Festival of Lights Parade, these events showcase the heart and soul of our community.
Springtime Joy: Chocolate, Beer & Easter Fun
As the winter chill melts away, Los Altos springs to life with celebrations that are all about sweetness, laughter, and local flavor.
In February, the Valentine’s Choco-Stroll brings a deliciously festive spirit to downtown. Guests sample chocolate treats and learn from local chocolatiers, all while supporting downtown merchants. It’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself or someone special.
March brings out the green as we toast to the St. Paddy’s Beer Stroll. Local businesses host craft breweries for a lively evening that pairs perfectly with music and community cheer. It’s a relaxed, welcoming way to usher in the season.
April is a favorite for families, thanks to the Downtown Los Altos Easter Egg Hunt, a tradition that’s now in its 62nd year. Thousands of eggs are hidden along Main and State Streets, and little ones race joyfully to find them. There’s a sweet sense of nostalgia in the air—and it's one of those events that makes you grateful to raise a family here.
Bubbly, Pets, and Summer Sun
May is all about celebration! From sparkling sips to furry parades.
Early in the month, the Downtown Bubbly Stroll invites residents and visitors to sip their way through town, sampling sparkling wines and other bubbly beverages while exploring our charming downtown shops. It’s elegant, joyful, and a great way to discover new local favorites.
A week or so later, the town gathers for one of its most cherished traditions—the Los Altos Kiwanis Pet Parade. Now celebrating more than 75 years, this beloved event turns Main and State Streets into a walking showcase of dogs, cats, goats, ponies, bunnies, and more! The creativity, costumes, and community spirit are absolutely delightful. It’s such a heartwarming reminder of how deeply connected and caring this town truly is.
Art & Wine Take Center Stage
As the summer season rolls in, July brings one of Los Altos’ signature events, the Arts & Wine Festival. This two-day celebration fills the streets with vibrant art, live music, delicious food, and California wines. There’s truly something for everyone—from fine artists and crafters to hands-on kids’ activities and dancing to local bands. It’s a weekend that locals and visitors alike look forward to all year long.
August continues the artistic celebration with Rotary’s Fine Art in the Park at Lincoln Park. This juried art show highlights incredible regional talent, and proceeds go to local and global service projects. It’s the perfect blend of beauty and purpose, and a wonderful way to enjoy a summer afternoon under the trees while supporting the arts and giving back.
Savor the Season: Fall Wine, Beer & Halloween Cheer
Los Altos eases into fall with a festive lineup of tastings and traditions.
In September, we raise our glasses for two much-anticipated events, the Downtown Beer Stroll and the Downtown Wine Stroll. These evening events turn downtown into a walkable tasting room, with merchants partnering with local breweries and wineries to offer samples, snacks, and special shopping experiences. With music in the background and neighbors mingling, both strolls are a great way to enjoy a night out while supporting small businesses.
Then comes October, and with it, a little magic for the kids (and the kids at heart). The BOO-tiful Downtown Halloween event sends children on a pumpkin-signed trick-or-treat adventure through downtown shops. It’s festive, safe, and filled with laughter as little ghosts, princesses, and superheroes fill the streets with joy.
Holiday Cheer Lights Up the Town
Los Altos truly shines during the holiday season, and the celebrations start early in November with the Annual Holiday Stroll. Residents bundle up and enjoy an evening of caroling, twinkling lights, gift shopping, and cozy community vibes. The storefronts sparkle with decorations, and the joy is absolutely contagious.
As December arrives, the holiday spirit reaches full brilliance with several events that make this season extra special:
-
The Festival of Lights Parade lights up downtown with floats, music, and a visit from Santa. Families line the streets, warm drinks in hand, for an unforgettable night of holiday magic.
-
The Holiday Tree Celebration at Veterans Community Plaza is a heartwarming kickoff to the season. There’s music, cocoa, and of course—the big tree lighting that brings everyone together in wonder and joy.
-
Children and families can visit Santa at the Enchanté Boutique Hotel for photos and holiday memories they’ll treasure for years. His stop in Los Altos is always one of the season’s most anticipated moments.
-
The Trim-a-Tree @LosAltos initiative is a newer tradition that’s quickly become a favorite. Local businesses, schools, and community groups decorate trees throughout downtown, bringing a festive, collaborative spirit to the entire area.
-
Rounding out the month is the Holiday Market at State Street Market, held over two Thursdays in December. Guests enjoy live music, local vendors, and a joyful, relaxed way to shop small and savor the season.
Why These Events Matter
These aren’t just dates on a calendar, they’re reflections of who we are as a community. They remind us to slow down, connect, and celebrate all that makes life here so special. Buying a home in Los Altos isn’t just about the four walls, but about the community you can enter.
As someone who has had the joy of living and working in Los Altos for many years, I’ve seen how these events help people fall in love with the city, not just for the first time, but over and over again. Whether you’re just beginning your journey here or you’ve called Los Altos home for decades, these shared experiences strengthen the bonds that turn neighbors into friends and moments into traditions.
Let’s Celebrate Together
If you plan on attending any of these events, please say hello—I love connecting with friends, clients, and future neighbors at these celebrations. If you ever have questions about real estate in Los Altos or the surrounding area, I’m always here to help with local expertise and a deep love for our community. From North Los Altos to South Los Altos and everywhere in between, I love this community!
Here’s to another incredible year of living, laughing, and celebrating life in Los Altos. I feel so lucky to call this place home, and even luckier to help others do the same.
Warm regards,
Lynn
